The ideas for the Treehouse Arts Studio & Community Center stemmed from the time we were at home "during covid." This time brought up a lot of different ideas for people and for our family, and it meant spending so much extra time together! Where can we go? What can we do? What would we do right now if we could go out to someplace fun here in our town?? It was then we started our brainstorming and came up with an extensive plan of ideas to fill a schedule of fun and mostly free things to do without travelling to far away....this hatched the idea of building a treehouse big enough so that our neighbors in Northborough and friends in nearby communities could drive a short distance and get to "hang out together." We have been making a plan for basically 5 years, gathering feedback, building connections with community members, and now the next step is finding the right space needed to bring it to fruition.
For many years, I was on the sidelines of gymnastics meets, soccer, football, and lacrosse games, track meets, and a few years of collegiate level football games, and so now when I'm asked, "what's new?" my answer is more than an update of my kids' sports. Though I love being a sideline cheerleader for youth and teen sports, I have found many ways to keep my creative and rebellious nature occupied during that time. Now that the lil birds are out of the nest, I've been volunteering with the Northborough Cultural Council and have helped to plan some community-wide events in town. Together as a team effort, we have done some temporary art projects like the hand-painted Flowerful Chairs, established a new Town Hall Gallery, and have a new mural coming soon. We successfully planned an Open Studios event, which featured actual in-town studios and matched artists with businesses for a one-day pop-up event. It happened on Saturday, May 17th, this year. We planned a Porchfest Northborough music event, which was rained out last year, and we hope to see the sunshine this year on June 14th!
Please consider joining our group and share your email. Come to a planning session with ideas on how we can make this truly a community center for all age residents of Northborough and all the surrounding communities. Sincerely, Jen and her lil family
